I’ve found a ssm1061 previous posts on this, but none seemed to solve my problem and the messages seem a little conflicting – some people have got the media controller to work with a linux distrubution, some people seem to think the problem is the DVD drive not the media controller, not sure what to make of any of that: Copyright Gentoo Foundation, Inc.

I actually use these in unRAID. I’d imagine you can find the one I linked near you. Ubuntu is not supporting some SATA ports, and instead of ignoring the hardware that is using these SATA ports Ubuntu is just crashing when the installer is starting without any message!

After some trial and error, I managed to make it work. You can go even cheaper and get a 2 port or go extreme and get a 10 port. I also don’t use the type of multiplier you linked so I can’t speak to that either.
